Meet Troy Barnett, an electrifying Producer, Musician, Engineer, Singer-Songwriter, and proud GRAMMY® Voting Member of The Recording Academy!

 

As the visionary founder of Phat Barz Records & Multimedia, Troy is on a mission to create music that not only captivates but also tells a powerful story. With an impressive 30 years in the industry, his musical journey began at Kashmere High School under the guidance of the incredible Sir William Portis. He further refined his musical talents at Texas Southern University under the guidance of the renowned Prof. Howard Harris, shaping him into the talented musician he is today.

The accomplished founder and owner of Phat Barz Records & Multimedia, a recording label and production company based in Houston, boasts a diverse portfolio including musical work on artist projects, radio, film/television, and sports/media, while collaborating successfully across many genres such as blues, gospel, jazz, hip-hop and R&B. 

​

Troy Barnett's impressive work as a vocalist can be heard while listening to notable collaborations with artists such as Pat Williams on the 2023 release Exclusive EP, where he is featured on the single Freshin' Up, alongside Donald Jordan with Josh Dunham on bass.  He can be heard on Sounds of Kingdom's 2024 release, Not Ashamed 2.0 written by gospel recording artist and drummer Jeremy Sanders.

He is well known among his peers as a talented and in-demand Key Bass musician, a skill he chose to develop and sound perfected as a result of a vacancy, a need to substitute for a bass guitar player in his 9th grade high school band.  What began as an attempt to merely serve as a stand-in for an actual bass guitar instrument player during concert performances, later earned him a reputation for being one of the best in the business. Having performed on a number of successful recordings as a key bassist, he can recently be heard on the 2025 Southeast Inspirational Choir's gospel release, That Will Be Glory featuring Kathy Taylor, Rise' Joiner, Demetria Jackson and Esprit Hunter, produced by Donald Paige and Paul Richard.

Troy Barnett has earned extensive musical credits as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and mixing engineer.

​

He released his single Old Dusty Road in March 2024, showcasing his continued commitment to music, after taking almost a decade away from the limelight to refocus and rebuild his brand in the recording industry as a leading professional with the goal of producing hit records for other artists.  The song Old Dusty Road was written and produced by Troy Barnett as a solo project inspired by fond family memories and the peaceful happiness of his childhood in rural Texas -- a tribute to the people and experiences that positively influenced his journey.

He currently operates through his label, Phat Barz Records & Multimedia, where he provides songwriting, vocal production, recording, mixing, and mastering services. 

​
